Point 10 of the Malcantone Mining Park Trail is the Astano Land Reclamation area.<\/p>

The path leading up from the Astano small lake to the locality of “N\u00fcs” is also called the “Path of the Poles”. In fact, this path leads along the ridge of the Scer\u00e9e hill, which was reclaimed by Polish soldiers who had taken refuge in Switzerland during the Second World War.<\/p>

The sign shows a photo of Polish internees engaged in agricultural reclamation work and their living quarters, which were located west of the village of Astano.<\/p>

The reclamation work extended the productive agricultural area, allowing the establishment of a much larger farm than the traditional ones in the region. Several areas reclaimed for agricultural use had previously been peat bogs and swamps where water stagnated. Today, a small area still remains that has retained these characteristics and has been included in the federal nature inventory as a nature conservation area.<\/p>

Recently, cuppellar boulders have been found in places on the Scer\u00e9e hill. It is probable that before the reclamation works, there must have been several sites where Celtic remains could be found all along this ridge, which are no longer to be found.<\/p>

From a landscape point of view, this reclamation represents an atypical area that nevertheless has its own specificity that relates to the history of this last century.<\/p>

Continuing in the direction of the Bolle mines, one can observe a row of chestnut trees that is the result of the reclamation work, and in the forest to the east of these we can observe on some rock outcrops cup marks that date back to pre-Roman times. Sentiero del Parco Minerario 10 Bonifica di Astano Tutte le tappe Il punto 10 del Sentiero del Parco Minerario del Malcantone \u00e8 l\u2019area della Bonifica di Astano. Il sentiero che sale dal Laghetto di Astano verso la localit\u00e0 di “N\u00fcs” viene anche chiamato \u201cSentiero dei Polacchi\u201d: infatti questo percorso porta sul crinale della collina dello Scer\u00e9e che \u00e8 stata bonificata dai soldati polacchi che si erano rifugiati in Svizzere durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Il cartello mostra una foto degli internati polacchi impegnati nei lavori di bonifica agricola e dei loro alloggi che si trovavano a ovest del villaggio di Astano. I lavori di bonifica hanno permesso di estendere l\u2019area agricola produttiva permettendo l\u2019insediamento di un\u2019azienda agricola di dimensioni molto pi\u00f9 grandi di quelle tradizionali. Diverse superfici ricuperate all\u2019uso agricolo erano fino a quel momento delle torbiere e delle paludi dove l\u2019acqua stagnava. Oggi resta ancora una piccola area che ha mantenuto queste caratteristiche che \u00e8 stata inclusa nell\u2019inventario naturalistico federale come zona di protezione della natura. Ultimamente sono stati rinvenuti in alcuni punti della collina dello Scer\u00e9e dei massi cuppellari. E’ probabile che prima dei lavori di bonifica\u00a0 si potessero trovare dei resti di testimonianze celtiche lungo tutto questo crinale che per\u00f2 ora non sono pi\u00f9 reperibili. Sotto l\u2019aspetto paesaggistico questa bonifica rappresenta un\u2019area atipica che tuttavia ha una sua specificit\u00e0 che si collega alla storia di questo ultimo secolo. Continuando in direzione delle miniere delle Bolle si pu\u00f2 osservare una fila di alberi di castagno che \u00e8 il risultato dei lavori di bonifica e nel bosco che si trova a est di queste piante possiamo osservare su alcune rocce affioranti le coppelle che risalgono alle epoche preromane.
