The twelfth point of the Malcantone Mining Park Trail is the “Bolle” ponds.<\/p>

The name of this locality Bolle means ponds. This area was one of the wetlands on the ridge of the Scer\u00e9e hill. Unauthorised work carried out in the 1970s and the subsequent abandonment of the use of this area led to a return to the original wetland situation.<\/p>

A wetland and aquatic flora has developed in this environment and various types of aquatic fauna in the ponds.<\/p>

Ponds and wetlands are the richest environments for animal and plant species and therefore have a high biodiversity. Some of these species are even rare and endangered. To give a few examples, one can encounter the elegant dragonflies darting and chasing each other, or those strange animals that skate on water, the gerridae, specialised in catching the unfortunate insects that fall into the water and remain on the surface floating. Beetles, dipterans, water scorpions, shrimps, water spiders, some consume plant debris, others are predators of other animals. And of course, there are also mosquitoes. But don’t worry, in mature ponds, which have achieved a balance, there are enough predators in and out of the water to keep them under control. Tiger mosquitoes are not a problem. They lay their eggs in temporary and very small environments, such as small, abandoned containers, tyres…, where they manage to develop before they dry up. Under these conditions the predators that should control them cannot develop. Amphibians, frogs, tree frogs and toads, use ponds to reproduce. Here they lay their numerous eggs from which many tadpoles will hatch, which may be lucky enough to develop into adults. These animals are very sensitive to water pollution and find fewer and fewer environments suitable for them. That is why no store-bought goldfish or water turtles should be released in ponds: these animals also feed on eggs and tadpoles.<\/p>

In lowland areas, wetlands are under pressure from human activities: land reclamation, pollutant inputs, and the release of competing and predatory species. More than 90 % of the wetlands once present in Switzerland have been destroyed. That is why those few that remain are environments that must be carefully preserved. Sentiero del Parco Minerario 12 Gli Stagni delle Bolle Tutte le tappe Il dodicesimo punto del Sentiero del Parco Minerario del Malcantone sono le “Bolle”. Il nome di questa localit\u00e0 “Bolle” significa stagni. Quest\u2019area era una delle aree umide del crinale della collina dello Scer\u00e9e. I lavori abusivi eseguiti negli anni Settanta e il susseguente abbandono dell\u2019uso di quest\u2019area hanno favorito il ritorno a una situazione analoga a quella originaria di area umida. In questo ambiente si \u00e8 sviluppata una flora di area umida e acquatica e negli stagni una fauna acquatica di vario tipo. Gli stagni e gli ambienti umidi sono gli ambienti pi\u00f9 ricchi di specie animali e vegetali, hanno dunque una biodiversit\u00e0 elevata. Alcune di queste specie sono addirittura rare e minacciate. Per fare alcuni esempi, si possono incontrare le eleganti libellule sfrecciare e rincorrersi, oppure quegli strani animali che pattinano sull\u2019acqua, i gerridi, specializzati a catturare gli sventurati insetti che cadono in acqua e restano sulla superficie a galleggiare. Coleotteri, ditteri, scorpioni d\u2019acqua, gamberetti, ragni acquatici. Alcuni consumano detriti vegetali, altri sono predatori di altri animali. E naturalmente ci sono anche le zanzare, ma niente paura, negli stagni maturi, che hanno raggiunto un equilibrio, ci sono sufficienti predatori in acqua e fuori, per tenerle sotto controllo. Le zanzare tigri non sono un problema. Esse depongono le uova in ambienti temporanei e molto piccoli, come piccoli contenitori abbandonati, copertoni\u2026, dove riescono a svilupparsi prima che si prosciughino. In queste condizioni i predatori che dovrebbero controllarle non si possono sviluppare. Gli anfibi, rane, raganelle e rospi, utilizzano gli stagni per riprodursi. Qui depongono le loro numerose uova da cui nasceranno molti girini che forse avranno la fortuna di trasformarsi in adulti. Sono animali molto sensibili all\u2019inquinamento delle acque e che trovano sempre meno ambienti adatti a loro. Ecco perch\u00e9 negli stagni non si devono rilasciare pesci rossi o tartarughe acquatiche acquistate nei negozi: questi animali si cibano anche di uova e girini. Nelle zone di pianura le zone umide sono sotto pressione dalle attivit\u00e0 umane: bonifiche, immissioni di sostanze inquinanti, immissioni di specie concorrenti e predatrici. Pi\u00f9 del 90 % delle zone umide una volta presenti in Svizzera sono state distrutte. Ecco perch\u00e9 quelle poche rimaste sono ambienti da preservare con cura.
