Mining Park Trail

The seventh point of the Malcantone Mining Park Trail is the village of Bombinasco

The small village of Bombinasco is an enclave of the municipality of Curio. The origin of this settlement is very ancient and dates to pre-Roman times. In fact, the suffix -asco is a Ligurian word meaning watercourse. The nearby Froda waterfall bears witness to this and tombs from the Celto-Roman era have been found in the vicinity of this stream. The Bombinasco enclave is the consequence of a territorial subdivision that took place in the 1500s of a community called Castellanza comprising the villages of Banco, Bedigliora, Bombinasco Curio and Novaggio. This territory was then divided between the three communities of Novaggio, Curio with Bombinasco and Bedigliora with Banco and Nerocco. Negotiations have begun in recent years to reunite these three municipalities together with Astano and Miglieglia. The decision will be put to a popular vote in November 2023.

The settlement of Bombinasco currently consists of a core with a medieval structure and several villas built in the early 20th century.

In the proximity of the Froda waterfall, prospecting tunnels were excavated in the second half of the 19th century. The mouth of the tunnel can no longer be found.
