About us
Gold Mine La Costa
Thanks to the Acqua Fregia Association, it was possible in 2016 to start work on the recovery of the La Costa Gold Mine.
The association’s activities were supported by the municipalities of Sessa and Monteggio; there were also collaborations with the Fondazione Malcantone and other associations active in the municipality (Piccolo Museo di Sessa). A large number of volunteers worked hard to first secure the initial collapsed section, to secure the state of the rock and the obstructed access to the lower shafts, not to forget the connection to the power line.
On 5 May 2017, the Minera d’oro di Sessa Association was founded, as the specificity and complexity of the challenge required the establishment of a new official entity, which could advance the project in a professional manner, so as to complete the activities necessary for opening and coordinating management.
Since 29 April 2018, the day of the opening, the mine has been open to the public and a large group of local volunteer guides, specially trained by the association, has been in charge of managing the visits.
Over the course of these years, the association’s committee has been active in making visits to the various tunnels more and more attractive and, with enormous efforts, thanks to the work of several volunteers, has allowed the opening of two more tunnels (Cunicolo Trudi and Cunicolo della Rala)
